Tooth Whitening

Teeth Whitening is a safe and non invasive procedure that may be used to improve the colour of your teeth. The agents used to whiten teeth have been in use for more than 60 years.

How does it work?

The active ingredient used in teeth whitening is Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2).  The oxygen element penetrates the teeth and oxidises the stains and pigments within their structure. The shade of the teeth is improved, without altering the structure.

How safe it it?

Clinical studies have indicated that, under the supervision of a dental health professional, and with correct use Teeth Whitening using Hydrogen Peroxide is safe for teeth and gums, with no long term side effects. Research indicates that there is no increase in the need for any dental treatment as a result of Teeth Whitening.

TEETH WHITENING OPTIONS

The two methods we offer at Acclaim Dental are:

• ‘In Office’ This utilises the Zoom system.  A concentrated Teeth Whitening solution is applied to the teeth and is activated by a blue wave length light.  The results are instantaneous and are achieved at an accelerated rate.  As a supplement to this procedure, we like to make the ‘At Home’ kit for you as well.  By using the ‘At Home’ kit for a few days post ‘Zoom’, the colour is stabilised and you have less “fade back” in colour.  The added advantage is that we show you how to touch up the colour yourself whenever you feel it necessary.

• 'At Home' Custom made trays are fabricated to enable you to apply Teeth Whitening solutions to the teeth for a specified amount of time per day.  This method is more gradual but will eventually achieve the same result (approximately 2-6weeks but this time frame can vary on the indiviual patient).

Occasionlly tooth whitening can produce tooth sensitivity for some people. A tooth mousse may be recommended prior to and after treatment.
